The Partners Role

Over the years of serving my clients, most of the questions ask of me come from the partner.  Generally speaking, they are more nervous than the mom to be.  So,  this blog is an attempt to answer some of those questions.

Support persons should know the stages and phases of labor.  By knowing this, you are more aware of what is normal in labor.  Staying relaxed and rested is another "must" for the support persons.  The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed the environment stays, keeping the laboring mom in good spirits.  Take your ques from the doula, let her do the worrying.  You take time to love, acknowledge and pamper the laboring mother and enjoy the experience together.  One of the biggest tips I give to the support person is never to take anything she may say personal.  Remember, she is experiencing pain in a way she never has before.  She is nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time and her emotions are at an all time high!

When the support person and the Doula work together, the outcome is usually an experience that all can look back on with fond memories.  And that is the goal!!
